Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 22 year old Gilbert Palmerin of Fresno. He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of robbery, possession of stolen property, drug possession and resisting arrest. Palmerin’s bail has been set at $44,000.
Around 9:00 am Thursday, a 74 year old man picked up his mail from the post office located at the corner of Tulare and M Streets in downtown Fresno. While doing so, he left his bicycle unattended outside the building for about 10 seconds. When the man came out to get his bike, he saw a man (later identified as Gilbert Palmerin) riding away on the bike. The 74 year old chased him about a quarter of a mile to Kern and N Streets, where he caught up with the suspect. The victim grabbed the bike and tried to pull it away from Palmerin. They struggled over it for about 30 seconds and Palmerin finally made a violent verbal threat and pushed the victim. Two on-duty Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies were walking in the area and heard people yelling for help. They quickly ran over and saw the struggle taking place. Palmerin ran from the deputies, but they caught him a short distance away on Main Street and placed him under arrest. Deputies searched Palmerin and found him to be in possession of a glass pipe with methamphetamine inside of it.
The bike was returned to the victim who was not injured.
