Property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 26 year old Shanpreet Sanghera of Fresno.
He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of robbery, carjacking and probation violation. His bail has been set for $30,000. He is not eligible for bail on the probation charge.
Just before 7:00 am on Wednesday, April 25th, a masked man walked into Adams Market located at E. Adams & S. Cedar Ave in Fresno. Armed with a knife, he robbed the clerk, taking cash and the clerk’s car keys. He then drove away with the clerk’s SUV. The store employees, none of whom were injured, immediately made a report to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded and collected video surveillance of the crime. Working off a description of the suspect and the stolen vehicle, they canvassed the area. Deputies found the clerk’s SUV abandoned a few miles away near S. Maple and E. Springfield Avenues. Deputies discovered evidence showing the suspect may have run through nearby orchards and vineyards to get away.
Around 8:00 am, deputies developed information about the possible suspect and went to his house on the 2700 block of E. Dinuba Ave. They found a man driving a tractor, who claimed he had been farming all morning. Deputies determined it was a cover up and this was actually the man who committed the robbery. Shanpreet Sanghera had gone home, showered, changed clothes and then went outside to look as though he was working. Deputies arrested him and were able to recover a portion of the cash taken from the store.
