1/14/19 - Sheriff's detectives have identified the suspect from last Friday’s deputy involved shooting. He is 37 year old Jose Ledesma of Fresno. He remains in the hospital, listed in stable condition. He has been electronically booked into the Fresno County Jail. He faces multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats. His bail is set at $185,000.
1/11/19 - At 2:35 pm on Friday, a woman called dispatchers at the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to report a man was threatening to kill her and a family member. Deputies were dispatched to a home on the 3400 block of Circle Court East in Fresno’s Mayfair District.
Deputies arrived at the home and were confronted by a man standing near the driveway / sidewalk area who was armed with a knife, waving it around. Deputies ordered him to get back and drop the knife multiple times. The man refused and a deputy fired his handgun, striking the suspect. Deputies immediately began to give the suspect medical treatment and called for an ambulance. EMS personnel arrived and transported the suspect to the hospital. He has gone into surgery and his condition is unknown.
The suspect's name is not being released at this time. He is believed to be in his mid to late 30s.
Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit arrived to the scene to interview witnesses and collect evidence. At a later time, detectives will interview all of the deputies involved in the direct encounter with the suspect.
