Between August 8th and September 9th, property crimes detectives took reports of four different hot prowl burglaries occurring at homes in Riverdale. Locations included the 3700 block of W. Paloma Street, 4200 block of W. Mt. Whitney Avenue, 20000 block of S. Pendleton Street and 2600 W. Luna Drive. These happened at all hours of the day while the homeowners were inside their houses. However, none of the victims actually ever saw the suspect. During these burglaries, more than $40,000 worth of items such as rare coins, bills and jewelry were taken. More than half of the total value of those items belonged to one victim. These items have since been returned to the victim.
Through the investigation, detectives identified Paul Whited as a possible suspect. On September 27th, detectives served a search warrant at Whited’s home on the 21000 block of S. Marty Ave. in Riverdale. Inside, they found many items believed to have all been stolen. This included thousands of dollars in rare coins and bills belonging to the one victim who filed a report showing the largest loss.
