Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 46 year old Jose Castro of Sanger for attempted murder. He is expected to be booked into jail Monday night.
Just before 1:30 pm on Monday, sheriff’s dispatchers received a call of a stabbing on the 3600 block of S. Greenwood Ave. in Sanger. The victim, a 70 year old woman, had recently arrived home with Castro. The two had spent the earlier part of the day together in a car. Once they got home, they found Cal Fire extinguishing a fire in the area. The woman stood by and watched firefighters work. For an unknown reason, Castro walked up behind the woman and began stabbing her in the torso. Castro ran away as two of the victim’s family members chased him down the street and took him to the ground. They were able to hold him down until deputies arrived and arrested him.
The woman is in the hospital and her injuries are considered life-threatening.
The relationship between the suspect and victim is that she is the mother of Castro’s brother’s girlfriend. It is unknown what motivated Castro to stab her.
