Just before 2:30 am on Monday, deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a home on the 400 block of 6th Avenue Drive in Kingsburg. Deputies arrived just as two of the three suspects got into a vehicle and drove away. A short time later, Kingsburg Police officers attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder SUV, which matched a description of what the suspects were in. The driver ignored the officer’s lights and sirens and took off down Clarkson Ave. doings speeds of 80 – 100 mph. Officers pursued the vehicle and lost sight of it after it ran a stop sign at the McCall Ave. intersection. Deputies and officers continued to search the area and then saw an explosion near Clarkson and Highland. The suspect had crashed into a PG&E power pole and eventually came to rest in a vineyard. Live electrical lines made it dangerous for deputies and officers to approach the vehicle. Once the area was determined to be safe, deputies detained the driver who was a 17 year old boy from Fowler. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. During a search of the SUV, detectives found some stolen items that belonged to the Kingsburg home. They also discovered a loaded handgun, however, it remains unknown if it too is stolen.
California Highway Patrol officers detained Jacob Garza about a mile away from the crash scene. He was a passenger in the vehicle who managed to get out and walk away.
Meanwhile, a witness to the burglary notified deputies that the third suspect, Marco Barrita-Pacheco, was walking near the McDonald’s restaurant at Sierra St. and 6th Ave. Drive. He was detained without incident.
On Tuesday, detectives served a search warrant at a home on the 4600 block of E. Huntsman in Fowler. There they found stolen property and clothing linking Pacheco and the 17 year old to the burglary. During an interview with Garza, detectives determined he too was involved with the burglary. Detectives are now working to return all of the stolen property back to its owner.
