4/5/17 - The victim has been identified as Jose Delcid Escalante, 19, of Mendota.
4/4/17 - Around 10:45 am on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a worker who had found a deceased person along the dry bank of the San Joaquin River.
The specific location was at the end of N. San Mateo Ave. in Mendota. Deputies responded and found a young man who had visible injuries. Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit were notified and they responded to begin an investigation. The circumstances behind the man’s death are unknown, but detectives believe he was targeted and this was not a random act of violence.
The name and age of the victim is not available for release at this time.
This marks the 5th homicide of 2017 in the Fresno County Sheriff’s jurisdiction.
