7/17/17 - Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are searching for 22 year old Pedro Ojeda.
Detectives believe he may have witnessed a homicide that took place on July 15th, along the 53000 block of Hogback Road in Miramonte. Ojeda is 5 feet tall, 150 lbs., with brown eyes and short black hair. Ojeda is only wanted for questioning at this time. There is a strong possibility he is in the forest which makes up Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.
Around 4:45 pm on July 15th, dispatchers at the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call that someone had been shot in the area of 53000 Hogback Road in Miramonte. Deputies aboard the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, EAGLE One, were first to arrive. They landed and discovered a man lying on the ground, who was later identified as 57 year old Tom Woodall. Deputies found Woodall to be uninjured. Deputies continued to search the surrounding area and later found a young man deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. A further search of the area was done by ground and air, but deputies did not find any other people. However, they did find a marijuana garden nearby that contained 3,800 plants. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit responded to remove and destroy the plants. At this time, it is unknown whether the illegal marijuana grow played a role in this homicide.
Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to collect and analyze evidence. Detectives later interviewed Woodall and established he was responsible for shooting and killing the young man. He was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on a charge of murder.
Tom Woodall lives near the area in which deputies found him. However, the marijuana was not growing on his property.
The victim is a Hispanic man in his late teens. Detectives are still trying to determine his identity.
