Detectives with the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium’s (MAGEC) Rural Investigations Unit have arrested 58 year old Masoud Abedi of Fresno.
He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of illegally carrying a concealed firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon and illegal possession of a suppressor. His bail is set at $60,000.
On Thursday evening, MAGEC detectives served a search warrant at a home located inside the San Joaquin Estates complex located near Olive and Marks in Fresno. This search came at the conclusion of a month long investigation where detectives had developed information that Masoud Abedi was in possession of numerous firearms and had intentions of illegally selling them on the streets to make some quick cash.
Detectives contacted Abedi and found him to be carrying a loaded handgun, which he is not permitted to do. During a search of Abedi’s home and vehicle, detectives found five additional handguns, three rifles and a suppressor. Suppressors are illegal to possess in the State of California. One of the rifles found, a .308, is classified as an assault weapon. Members of the Department of Justice’s Firearms Unit were on scene with MAGEC and determined Abedi legally possessed the assault weapon prior to the ban on them going into effect, however, he failed to register it as required by law. Only three of the weapons at the scene are registered under Abedi’s name. Detective found evidence to show Abedi had plans to illegally sell all of the firearms.
