The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed a felony complaint alleging attempted murder charges against Thong Vang (37, of Fresno), for the Saturday morning shooting inside the Fresno County Main Jail lobby which critically wounded Correctional Officers Toamalama Scanlan and Juanita Davila.
Thong Vang has been charged with felony violations of:
1.) Attempted Murder of Officer Davila, along with an allegation for the use of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
2.) Attempted Murder of Officer Scanlan, along with an allegation for the use of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
3.) Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Additionally, it is alleged that Mr. Vang has previously been convicted of five (5) “Strike Priors” pursuant to the Three Strikes Law, and also has two (2) prior convictions for “serious felonies” pursuant to Penal Code section 667(a)(1).
Mr. Vang was arrested immediately after the shooting and remains in custody at the Fresno County Jail.
He is scheduled for Arraignment in Department 30 of the Fresno County Superior Court on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. Mr. Vang faces a potential sentence of 110 years to life in prison if convicted of the charges.
Both Correctional Officers Scanlan and Davila remain hospitalized where they are recovering from their injuries.
