Deputies have arrested 32-year old Joie Carrell and 35-year-old Cherice McMillian.

On January 14th at 10:00 pm, deputies on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a car near the intersection of Palm and Shields in Fresno.  Inside the car were Joie Carrell and Cherice McMillian.  Deputies ran their names through a computer database and discovered the two were on active probation.

Carrell is a self-admitted gang member and deputies found that he had a loaded sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun in a backpack by his feet.  An inspection of the gun showed the serial numbers had been filed off.  Deputies also confiscated a bandanna which showed a swastika and Carrell’s gang affiliation.  He is currently a transient, but has lived at several Fresno addresses in the past.  He is on active AB109 probation.

McMillian had several outstanding arrest warrants and was found to be in possession of numerous stolen credit cards, credit profiles and checks.  She is also a transient and last lived at an address in Oregon.

Both suspects have been booked into the Fresno County Jail.  Carrell faces charges of being an ex-felon possessing a firearm and ammunition, possessing a short barrel shotgun and tampering with the serial numbers of a firearm.  McMillian faces charges of identity theft, burglary and possession of stolen property.

Anyone with additional information on the suspects involved in this case is asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).
