On Thursday at 9:17 pm, Fresno County Jail Inmate Andrew Steven Zavala passed away at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
Fresno Police officers brought the 24 year old Fresno man into the jail at 7:18 pm to be booked on a felony charge of probation violation (AB109). Zavala was placed into a holding cell and a Fresno County correctional officer performed a safety check on him. At this time, Zavala told the correctional officer he was not feeling well. The officer brought in a nurse to check his vital signs and Zavala was then transported by ambulance to the hospital for further evaluation. Shortly after arriving at CRMC, Zavala died.
The Coroner’s Office has not ruled a cause of death. It is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests.
