Eric Smith

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 35 year old Eric Kenneth Smith of Fresno.  He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on a charge of murder.

At 4:30 pm on May 26, 2018, Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received an emergency call regarding a disturbance with a possible stabbing at a home located near Duke and Holland Avenues in Fresno’s Tarpey Village.  Deputies arrived to the scene and found 23 year old Anthony Felix Romero of Fresno suffering from a stab wound.  He was transported to the hospital where he later passed away.

Meanwhile, deputies were given a description of the suspect, Eric Smith and the vehicle he drove away in.  Deputies on patrol, with the assistance of our EAGLE One helicopter, were able to find Smith driving in the area of Ashlan and Fowler Avenues.  Deputies stopped his vehicle and detained him.

Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home to begin an investigation.  They took custody of Eric Smith for questioning.  Detectives learned Smith was at the home visiting a woman when Romero, the woman’s boyfriend, showed up.  A disagreement took place between the two men, which turned into a fight and eventually ended with Smith stabbing Romero.  Following the interview, detectives arrested Smith.
