Property crimes detectives need help identifying a man who is wanted for an attempted armed robbery.
On July 2, 2016 at 4:30 pm, the suspect used a gun to try and rob Mom and Pops Market, located at 2444 S. 9th St. in Calwa.
The man walked into the store, grabbed a soda from the refrigerator and set it on the counter. He told the clerk to open the register and give him the money. The employee told him no, which caused him to pull a handgun out of his pocket and he demand the money again. As he pointed the gun at the clerk, she told him she was not going to give him any cash and alerted him to the fact that he was being recorded by a surveillance camera. The suspect immediately left the store without getting any money.
The suspect is a Hispanic man believed to be in his 20s. He is approximately 5’7”, 160 lbs. with short, dark hair.
If you know his identity and / or whereabouts, call Detective Tim Jacobsen at (559) 600-8709 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward.
