A student at Central High School West in Fresno is currently undergoing a mental health evaluation.
Once completed, he will be booked into the detention facility of the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center. He faces a felony charge of PC 422, which is to threaten to commit a crime that results in injury or death. The name of the teenager will not be released due to him being under the age of 18.
Thursday afternoon, a student made a report to staff members at the Central High School West campus that another student may have plans to shoot up the school. School staff immediately brought the student into the office and notified the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived and spoke with the student accused of making the threats. Based on several factors learned during the interview, deputies made a determination that his threats were credible. However, the student did not have any weapons with him at school. Deputies contacted the student’s family and discovered the family does own guns. Deputies are still working to see if the student had access to any of those guns.
Central Unified School District released the following statement.
“Central Unified is grateful for the swift response and investigation conducted by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Student and staff safety are of utmost importance in our district and we take all threats seriously. We urge parents to talk with their children about the seriousness of making any threatening remarks and to report all suspicious behavior observed in person or on social media.”
