The suspect killed during an officer involved shooting has been identified as Ricardo Cisneros Piceno, 39, of Reedley.
Shortly before 8:00 pm on May 31, 2018, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a road rage incident occurring between a man (later identified as Ricardo Cisneros Piceno) and other motorists. This was taking place near S. Anchor and E. Floral Avenues in Dinuba. The caller said Piceno wanted to fight multiple people and appeared to be under the influence of a substance.
Following the altercation, Piceno drove away in his car. An off-duty police officer with the Orange Cove Police Department, driving his personal vehicle, saw Piceno driving erratically and pulled off to the side of the road to let him pass by. However, Piceno stopped his car alongside the officer near the intersection of S. Monson & E. Floral Avenues and initiated an argument with the officer. The officer identified himself as law enforcement and got out of his car. The situation escalated and the officer fired several rounds from his handgun at Piceno’s car. Witnesses in the area reported the shots to dispatchers, who sent EMS to the scene. Medics transported Piceno to the hospital where he later died.
Due to the officer involved shooting taking place in Fresno County, our detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to begin an investigation. They collected evidence and interviewed several witnesses. Detectives later learned of another road rage incident that had taken place in Tulare County, just before the one that occurred at Anchor and Floral. None of the motorists involved in any of the three confrontations received serious injuries.
Detectives are working to schedule a time to meet with the Orange Cove Police officer to interview him about what took place.
On Saturday, an autopsy, along with toxicology tests are scheduled to be conducted on Piceno.
