Kings River in Sanger (May 24, 2017)

On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office lifted mandatory evacuation notices and evacuation warning notices at the Riverbend Mobile Home Park located at 17604 E. Kings Canyon Road in Sanger.

Flood waters from the Kings River have receded considerably at the park, which is allowing residents to return to their homes.

The Sheriff’s Office had issued evacuation notices to people on the property on June 20.  In response, the American Red Cross had established an evacuation shelter for residents.  It was located at Reedley High School, 740 W. North Ave. in Reedley.  The Central California Animal Disaster Team (CCADT) had also setup an emergency shelter there for household animals.  The shelters have since demobilized.

Water levels flowing from Pine Flat into the Kings River are expected to fluctuate throughout the summer.  There is a possiblity for flooding to occur again at the Riverbend Mobile Home Park, so residents should keep this in mind and always be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.  The Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor all areas of the county for possible flood situations.  The public is encouraged to report any potential flooding they become aware of by calling dispatchers at (559) 600-3111.

The public can check the hourly flows from Pine Flat Dam by visiting http://www.spk-wc.usace.army.mil/fcgi-bin/hourly.py?report=pnf

Due to public safety concerns, the Kings River, from Pine Flat Dam to the Tulare and Kings County lines, continues to be closed to all recreational users.  The Sheriff’s Office is strictly enforcing this closure and violators will be subject to citations. This infraction comes with a fine of $225.00.
