David Brown

Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 40 year old David Wayne Brown of Clovis.  He is currently in the Fresno County Jail and is being held on a parole violation.

On June 5, 2018, just after 11:00 am, sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call from a farmworker in the area of N. MacDonough, north of Belmont Ave. in Sanger.  The worker said he found an injured woman on the canal bank and it appeared she had been shot multiple times, including her face.  The woman, in her early 40s, was life-flighted to the hospital.  Deputies who responded to the scene were able to briefly speak with the woman and determine her ex-boyfriend, David Brown, was responsible for the shooting.  Homicide detectives began to search for Brown and the vehicle he may be driving.

Around 5:15 pm, a deputy saw a car in the area of Sunnyside and Gettysburg Avenues in Clovis that might be related to Brown.  As the deputy got closer, he noticed Brown was driving the car.  The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but Brown took off.  A pursuit ensued and additional deputies were notified, including the crew flying our EAGLE One helicopter.  Brown drove across numerous streets in Clovis and Fresno.  He drove at speeds over 60 mph, ran stop signs, traffic lights and showed no regard for public safety.  Approximately 10 minutes after the pursuit began, EAGLE One directed deputies toward the suspect at the intersection of Bullard Ave. and Fresno Street.  As Brown attempted to cut through a gas station parking lot at slow speed, a deputy used his patrol SUV to strike the side of Brown’s car.  Other deputies used their vehicles to surround Brown’s car, preventing him from driving any further.  Deputies took Brown out of the car along with a woman who was in the passenger’s seat.  Brown was arrested and then given medical treatment.  The woman was interviewed and later released.

Detectives have not yet submitted charges against Brown.  Once they do, he will likely face felony charges of evading police and attempted murder.
