Rene Rodriguez

On August 30th, 2019, detectives with the Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) arrested 34 year old Rene Rodriguez.

They located him at his home on the 2100 block of David Ave. in Monterey, CA.  He is now in the Fresno County Jail facing charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery.  His bail is set at $3.25 million.

On the night of October 27, 2013, deputies responded to a shooting at a home located on the 6000 block of S. Wakefield Ave. in Reedley.  There they discovered a home invasion robbery had taken place.  Two armed, masked men showed up posing as law enforcement officers and forced their way into the house.  The homeowner armed himself and confronted the two would-be robbers.  Several shots were fired between both the suspects and victim, leaving one of the suspects dead and the homeowner wounded.  The second suspect fled the scene.  During a search of the home, detectives discovered more than 100 pounds of processed marijuana, which the would-be robbers were targeting.

The suspect killed was 28 year old Israel Gomez Jr. of Visalia.  The 30 year old homeowner who was shot later recovered from his injuries.

A retired detective with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, who now works homicide cold cases, recently revisited this case.  He developed information that pointed to Rene Rodriguez as the suspect who fled the scene that night.  The detective secured an arrest warrant and MAGEC then carried it out.  Although Rodriguez was not the one who killed his partner Israel Gomez, he can be held legally responsible for his death because it occurred during the commission of a crime.  Therefore, he faces a murder charge.
