The Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who died after crashing his hang glider in Dunlap on Sunday. He is Daniel Fleming, 69, of Dunlap.
Around 4:15 pm on September 18, 2016, Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies responded to US Forest Service Road 12519, north of Highway 180 for a report of an injured person, later identified as Daniel Fleming. Deputies learned that around 3:30 pm, Fleming took off on his hang glider, along with a group of others, in an area near Delilah Lookout. For an unknown reason, Fleming’s hang glider took him near a large rock wall shelf and he crashed into it. One person on the ground called 911, while others rushed to try and help Fleming. The Sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, landed and the crew used a rescue basket to transport Fleming down to a lower area to an awaiting ambulance. A short time later, Fleming passed away.
A cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.
Fleming was an experienced flier who has been instructing and jumping for more than three decades. This remains an ongoing investigation.
